Letter to the Editor
26th April 1999
John Howard's seemingly innocuous Preamble has some very dire implications reguarding our democracy that is afforded by the Constitution!
To understand the cunning deception contained within his Preamble, one must first understand that the government of Australia has been functioning without a legally valid Constitution for decades.
Firstly, the Letters Patent to empower the governors issued by Queen Victoria, lapsed upon her death on January 22nd 1901, then the constitution itself became invalid when Australia received nationhood upon joining the League of Nations on January 10th 1920, this was the event that legally severed all political ties with the United Kingdom, all references to the Queen from this day forth have been purely titular!
Gough Whitlam attempted to "fix" the problem by conferring the title of "Queen of Australia" in 1973, and then Bob Hawke tried another "fix" by getting Queen Elizabeth II to finally replace Queen Victoria's Letters Patent on August 21st 1984.
And now in 1999, John Howard wishes to "validate" the current invalid Constitution with the phrase "In this spirit, we, the Australian people, commit ourselves to this Constitution."
If we allow this trickery to take place, Politicians and the Judiciary will continue to invoke their will on the people of Australia, and further erode rights and economic welfare by disempowering the rights of the electorate over Parliament.
Enough! We must end the destructive globalised path that our elected and appointed miscreants have directed the nation towards, we must replace our weak British Constitution that has been continually subverted by Politicians that serve foreign investment .
Even if the Constitution were still valid, we can not alter the legislation of another country's Parliament, therefore, we the people of Australia, should be drafting our very own Constitution, to make Government by the people, rather than of the people!
