What is a modem?

Modems allow computers to communicate computer data into audio tones for transmission across telephone lines. Modem would locate between computer and the telephone line which would handle the conversion of data into audio and vice versa.

For Dial up
The computer would send a connection attempt to our server by providing:
  • The phone number to connect to,
  • The username to connect with, and
  • The password for authentication.
The modem would dial the phone number you provided and try the connecting with Netbay Internet’s modem. If the connection attempt reaches our modem, our authentication server would in turn to ask for the username and password of your account to verify the account. The connection would be established if the authentication is successful.

For ADSL

This would also require a telephone landline service (Telstra phone line compulsory) for connecting to the Internet. The signal would be synchronized by using frequencies that allow a faster Internet connection, and the benefit of you being able to use your telephone service at the same time.
